Home and Community Based Services (HCBS) - Planned Respite (Education)
Respite providers are expected to have expertise in understanding and implementing behavioral/developmental interventions required to support optimal functioning for children/youth. Respite staff need to regularly communicate with parents/caregivers and agency supervisors regarding activities done, progress made, and any challenges or barriers.
Responsibilities:
Planned Respite Care
Provide high quality respite care for children/youth as part of the HCBS program, offering safe, structured, and supportive care during scheduled periods. Follow each child/youths individualized service plan, including any health, behavioral, or personal care needs.
Engagement and Activities
Plan and participate in age-appropriate activities to support the child/youths interests, development, and goals. Foster positive relationships through interactive and engaging activities including games, arts and crafts, outdoor play, and other recreational opportunities.
Safety and Supervision
Ensure the safety and security of the child/youth at all times, monitoring their physical and emotional well-being. Adhere to safety protocols, including safe transportation practices, and assist children/youth with mobility, hygiene, or other personal care needs as outlined in their service plans.
Communication and Documentation
Write a professional session note for each session detailing the services that were provided in support of the child/youths goals, the child/youths involvement and reactions to services, and describing the need for the continuation of services. Ensure session notes are submitted timely. Communicate effectively with the family, caregivers, and the HCBS team, sharing observations, progress, and any concerns regarding the child/youths well-being.
Quality Improvement
Accept and apply constructive feedback from supervisors to enhance the quality of service delivery. Attend training sessions to enhance skills and stay current with best practices in respite care and HCBS standards.
Qualifications:
A high school diploma, high school equivalency diploma or a State Education Commencement Credential (SACC or CDOS) Experience working with children/youth (preference given to those with experience working with children/youth with disabilities, behavioral health needs, or other special needs)
Skills and Competencies:
Compassionate and patient with the ability to build rapport children/youth who have developmental and behavioral health challenges. Culturally and linguistically competent and sensitive. Willingness to learn about new cultures without judgement or bias. Ability to engage in a variety of activities and be adaptable to each child/youths individual needs preferences and needs. Ability to stay calm and focused in stressful situations. Ability to maintain professionalism, sound judgement and confidentiality in all situations. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Accepts and applies constructive feedback from supervisors to enhance the quality of service delivery.
Pay Scale:
$20/hour
