POSITION SUMMARY:
A position is available in the Center for Regenerative Medicine / USF Health Heart Institute for a motivated scientist with surgical experience using rodent models. The Center researchers employ mouse models of cardiac disease and seek an individual with experience performing procedures including Transverse Aortic Constriction (TAC) and Left Main Descending Coronary Artery (LCA) occlusion. The candidate will work with Center members on projects, investigating the molecular mechanisms that regulate cardiac development and growth, and their role in human disease. Ongoing studies in the Center include research into the regulation of gene expression in normal and diseased heart as well as mechanisms of programmed cell death in cardiac regeneration and disease.
DUTIES:
• Will assist Center researchers by overseeing and performing animal surgeries, specifically mouse cardiac surgical procedures including Transverse Aortic Constriction (TAC) and Left Main Descending Coronary Artery (LCA) occlusion.
• Applicant will assist with design of animal model experiments and surgical procedures.
• Will collect, organize, and analyze procedures and data derived from surgeries for presentation, publication, and maintain experimental records.
• Will prepare descriptions of procedures and figures for researchers for use in manuscripts and grant applications
• Will participate in lab meetings, grant writing, and manuscript preparation.
• Will assist with other research-related tasks as needed.
• As a team, will work towards advancing your own career goals.
QUALIFICATIONS (Education & Experience):
Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in a natural, physical, or medical science.
FLSB1310 Equivalency:
4 years of directly relevant experience may be substituted for bachelor's degree.
Preferred Qualifications:
It is preferred that the candidate possess the following:
• Experience/comfortable with handling animals and training in animal surgical procedures
• Experience with mouse cardiac surgical procedures such as Transverse Aortic Constriction (TAC) and Left Main Descending Coronary Artery (LCA) occlusion
• Training in human or animal anatomy and physiology
• Self-motivation and independence seeking and obtaining feedback from peers and colleagues
• Excellent organization skills
• Familiarity with IACUC protocols and animal surgery regulations
