Set-Up/Automation Technician (Plastics - Off Shift) (Manufacturing)
Proficiently start up, shut down, set up, and troubleshoot injection molding machines.
Prepare, install, and remove molds and tooling according to the production schedule. Ensure that molds are set up correctly, and materials are available and prepared as needed.
Review production processes and maintain required documentation.
Monitor productivity of the injection molding process and production scrap. Optimize processes to increase efficiency, improve product quality, and reduce scrap.
Communicate with prior and oncoming shifts about work assignments, production expectations, and promote shift interaction and awareness.
Review production schedules and coordinate with the Shift Lead on priorities.
Work collaboratively with the Maintenance Department to identify and resolve machine issues, and coordinate with the Tool Room for mold-related concerns.
Proactively recommend and implement process optimizations to improve product quality, reduce cycle times, and lower scrap rates.
Maintain a clean and safe work environment, applying 5S principles.
Perform all tasks in a safe manner, ensuring compliance with company policies, IATF standards, and relevant health and safety regulations.
Support production by driving a forklift and handling materials when required
Perform additional tasks assigned.
Do you have what it takes to be be our next Set-Up / Process Technician?
5+ years of technical, process, and setup experience in the plastic injection molding industry preferred.
Familiarity with Scientific Molding techniques and methodologies is an asset.
Experience with various resins, such as PP, Nylon, Glass-filled materials, TPE, TPU, ABS, and other engineered resins.
Strong knowledge of mold hot runner controllers, sequential valve gates, auxiliary equipment, dryers, and thermolators.
Familiarity with robotic systems, including sprue pickers, end-of-arm tooling, 6-axis Fanuc robots, and gantry-style robots.
High degree of mechanical aptitude with a focus on continuous learning and development.
Strong attention to detail and a commitment to quality work.
Problem-solving skills with a focus on root cause analysis and solution-based thinking.
Ability to work effectively in a team-oriented environment with good interpersonal skills.
Good verbal and written communication skills (able to read and write in English).
Punctuality, reliability, and a strong work ethic are essential.
Working knowledge of the Occupational Health and Safety Act and good manufacturing practices.
Experience with machine tonnages from 1400 tons to 2400 tons is an asset.
Willingness to work flexible hours, specifically afternoon and night shifts, and ability to work overtime when needed.
