ORGANIZATIONAL SUMMARY:
The Department of Surgery has a large workforce of over 200 employees spread across eight divisions, all committed to achieving excellence in clinical care, education, and research. Over the past two years, the department has witnessed substantial growth and remains dedicated to recruiting and enhancing its programs. It comprises a diverse and highly skilled team of surgeons, each an expert in their specialized area. The department actively participates in both clinical and fundamental scientific research, contributing to the development of groundbreaking surgical techniques and treatment methods.
POSITION SUMMARY:
The Department of Surgery at the USF Health Morsani College of Medicine is seeking an exemplary physician leader an scientist to join USF Health and the Tampa Genral Hospital Cancencer Institute as Chief of Breast Surgery, Endowned Research Chair in Breast Cancer, and leader for the institute's Breast Cancer Program This significant role is designed for a highly accomplished surgeon with a robust research portfolio, who will drive forward our mission of excellence in clinical care, research, and education. This position will be instrumental in shaping the future of our breast surgery program, leveraging their expertise to expand research collaborations, drive cutting-edge breast cancer discoveries, and lead a patient-centric service culture. This position presents a unique opportunity for a visionary leader to enhance the stature of our institution both nationally and internationally, while play a key role in developing and mentoring our team. The ideal candidate will have a profound passion for advancing breast cancer treatment, prevention, and patient care, backed by a strong record of impactful publications and extramural funding.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
RESPONSIBILITIES:
CLINICAL CARE
Develop and implement strategic initiatives for program growth and excellence in patient care.
Advocate for and implement patient-centric service culture.
Understanding the future of breast surgery and position the program as an innovative leader in breast surgery care.
RESEARCH
Lead innovative breast cancer research, ensuring integration with clinical practices.
Oversee the clinical, research, and educational mission of the breast program.
Play a pivotal role in expanding research collaborations and securing extramural funding.
ADMINISTRATIION
Maintain compliance with medical standards and policies..
EDUCATION
Drive educational efforts, mentoring medical staff, residents, and students.
SERVICE/LEADERSHIP
Foster interdisciplinary collaboration across various departments and partners.
Lead efforts in fundraising and engaging with stakeholders for program growth.
POSITION QUALIFICATIONS:
MINIMUM:
Medical degree (MD or DO) from an accredited institution or the highest degree appropriate in the field of specialization with a demonstrated record of achievement in teaching, academic research, and service.
Must meet university criteria for appointment to the rank of Assistant Professor.
Must have current, unrestricted medical licensure in the State of Florida or be eligible for unrestricted medical licensure in the State of Florida.
Candidates must be Board Certified in General Surgery with additional qualification in Surgical Oncology and eligibility for an unrestricted Florida medical license.
Academic rank of Associate Professor or Professor.
Minimum of 7 years of experience in breast surgery and progressive leadership in a complex academic medical center environment.
Extensive cancer research experience with a strong record of impactful contributions in large clinical trials, federally funded investigation, and publications sufficient to be eligible for an Endowed Chair in Research in the College of Medicine.
Demonstrated ability to drive program expansion and innovation.
Strong organizational skills with the ability to negotiate effectively.
Excellent communication skills and the ability to build collaborative relationships.
Responsible to a Chair or other appropriate higher-level administrator of a State university.
Responsible for teaching, research, service, and related administrative activities.
Responsible for academic advising and related activities.
May represent the university, college/school, or department.
PREFERRED:
Demonstrated track record of research funding in cancer related areas.
5 years experience in a multidisciplinary, NCI-funded Comprehensive Cancer Center setting.
Experience working in a matrixed reporting environment.
