EHS Specialist (Biotech)

The EHS Specialist is responsible for developing, implementing, and overseeing environmental, health, and safety programs to ensure regulatory compliance and prevent workplace injuries and environmental incidents.
Develops and enforces EHS policies and procedures to maintain a safe and compliant workplace.
Maintains records and reports as required by regulatory agencies, corporate guidelines, and the EH&S Manager.
Supervises EHS program performance and regulatory compliance, serving as the site expert on safety, health, and environmental regulations.
Leads risk assessments, self-audits, and investigations, implementing controls to mitigate workplace hazards.
Collaborates with facility management to ensure safety and environmental controls align with current and proposed processes, equipment, and procedures.
Reviews and evaluates new chemicals, pharmaceutical ingredients, and materials introduced to the site, coordinating industrial hygiene monitoring as needed.
Leads all aspects of Safe Work programs and acts as the subject matter expert.
Conducts compliance training and plant inspections to ensure adherence to corporate, federal, state, and local safety and health regulations.
Assists in EHS training for employees, including new hires.
Participates in Safety Committees.
Tracks sustainability metrics and updates corporate databases quarterly.
Functional Competencies:
Knowledge of and the ability to read, analyze and interpret local, state and federal regulations, general business periodicals, professional journals, and technical procedures
Ability to write reports, business correspondence and procedure manuals
Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from managers, customers, employees, and outside agencies
Ability to work effectively in a team environment; plan, organize, delegate and follow-up on work flow, to meet goals and objectives.
Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to effectively interact with site employees at all levels
Ability to research, analyze, interpret regulations/standards: OSHA, NFPA etc.
General Duties:
Conduct safety training for new employees, temporaries, and contractors.
Conducting and documenting incidents investigations using structured problem-solving techniques including identification of root-cause and effective preventative actions
Recommend corrective actions where appropriate and follow-up to verify completion of corrective actions
Maintains records and reports as defined by regulatory agencies, corporate guidelines, and under the direction of the EH&S Manager.
Monitors performance of Environmental Health and Safety programs and regulatory compliance. Serves as a local expert in safety, health, and environmental regulatory issues and implements compliance activities on these matters.
Conduct periodic EHS inspections and audits to assess compliance with regulatory and company requirements
Conducting job safety analyses and risk assessments
Bachelor's degree or equivalent in Environmental Health & Safety, Industrial Hygiene, or a related field.
Three years of experience in industrial hygiene, pharmaceuticals, cGMP, or similar environments preferred.
Compensation for the role will depend on a number of factors, including the successful candidate's qualifications, skills, competencies, experience, and job-related knowledge.
