Senior Project Manager (Project Management)

MATRIX is seeking an Expert Project Manager to support major component heavy rigging operations at multiple nuclear power generation facilities in the Southeast. This role is ideal for a seasoned professional with extensive experience in nuclear outage work management, execution, and project management, combined with a deep technical expertise in heavy lifting and rigging operations.
You will be responsible for the full lifecycle of planning and execution highly-complex projects involving removal and replacement of large nuclear plant components such as generator stators, condensers, steam generators, and feedwater heaters. Youll work closely with site outage teams to safely integrate these critical lifts into the broader outage schedulewhile ensuring strict regulatory and safety compliance.
Key Responsibilities:
Lead heavy lift and component replacement operations within the framework of nuclear outage work.
Support method development, engineering deliverable schedules, contractor/utility coordination, and on-site representation for assigned projects.
Coordinate with plant outage management teams to align scope and execution timelines.
Develop and oversee heavy rigging plans using alternative lifting methods and specialized equipment.
Ensure all work complies with nuclear safety standards, site protocols, and applicable industry codes (OSHA, ASME B30, AISC, ANSI).
Facilitate on-site walkdowns, lift readiness reviews, and stakeholder coordination meetings.
Serve as technical liaison to utility clients.
Desired Qualifications:
Nuclear Experience Required: Minimum 5 years managing projects within operating nuclear power plants, specifically in support of outage execution and capital upgrades.
Heavy Lift Expertise: 10+ years in heavy rigging and lift operations with alternative load handling equipment.
Education: Bachelors degree in Mechanical or Civil Engineering preferred; equivalent hands-on experience considered.
Software Skills: Competency in Microsoft Office Suite and scheduling tools.
Communication: Strong verbal and written communication skills for engaging with clients, site managers, and team members; adept at cross-functional collaboration with departments like engineering and operations. Proficient in preparing and presenting project reports, technical documentation, and lift plans.
Field Readiness: Willingness to travel to job sites; ability to perform field assessments in active industrial environments.
Additional Details:
Based out of a regional office in Chesapeake, VA, with regular travel to nuclear plant sites as needed. Some remote work during certain project phases would be considered.
This role requires deep technical expertise in heavy lift planning and execution utilizing alternative lifting/handling equipment.
Standard work schedule is 5/8s, with potential ramp-up to 7/12s during key outage periods.
Must be able to attain a badge at a nuclear power facility. (background check, drug testing, etc.)
